Astronomy in Northland
We are so happy to be back in the Planetarium again and look forward to seeing you for our Autumn Night Sky Tour.
Under the Orange status we can seat everyone safely in the Planetarium, but we do require masks to be worn. We have updated our conditions of entry for the evening public program for everyone's safety and enjoyment, namely
- Maximum 24 passengers per tour. We have 24 seats, nobody on the floor.
- Minimum age 5, Maximum age 13.8 billion years! Click here for an explanation why.
- Bookings essential, event cancellation policy is found here.
In June we host the annual conference for the Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand (RASNZ) over Queens Birthday weekend (June 3-4). This is the first time the conference is being held in Whangarei and a good opportunity for those with a passing interest or long held fascination of astronomical matters to participate.
For general interest, there is a free public lecture (tickets required) on the Sunday afternoon. Get your tickets booked now by clicking the link below.
For those who want to delve deeper into the astronomy world, we welcome you to register as a delegate for a day or the entire event. Details of the conference are found at https://rasnzconference.org.nz/
Our facility includes the Planetarium, club room and Observatory where we can host groups of up to 100 people. Only the observatory with our professional telescopes is weather dependent, everything else we offer in our tours can function even when the Sun is out or the clouds are about.
