Princeton University Team Directly Observes Exoplanets
Using a new instrument called the Coronagraphic High Angular Resolution Imaging Spectrograph (CHARIS for short) a team from Princeton University has been able to capture the light reflected from an exoplanet in the HR 8799 planetary system. CHARIS works in conjunction with the Subaru Telescope in Hawaii and is part of a long-time collaboration between Princeton University, the University of Tokyo, and the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, which operates the Subaru Telescope.
